Why are some horses track
specialists?
Why do some tracks produce nightmare results for punters?
Why do some tracks favour leaders?
These answers and more can be found in our descriptions of Australia's
main horse racing tracks.
Warwick Farm is the Australian Jockey Club's second race course.
It has a circumference of 1,937 metres with the straight only 326 metres
long.
While horses get good straight runs to their first turn from most barrier
positions the turns are very sharp. Most distances between the
turns are short. This disadvantages long striding horses.
This also works to the advantage of horses racing on the pace or leading
at the home turn. The horses coming from behind are often forced very
wide on the home turn which means they have to cover a lot of extra ground.
