Why are some horses track
specialists?
Why do some tracks produce nightmare results for punters?
Why do some tracks favour leaders?
These answers and more can be found in our descriptions of Australia's
main horse racing tracks.
Doomben racecourse is the headquarters of the Brisbane
Amateur Turf Club.
It has a circumference of 1,715 metres with a straight 350 metres long.
Doomben is a tight and turning course making barrier positions important
in all races.
Horses drawn wide from the 1010 metres start are at a huge disadvantage
with a sprint of only 110 metres to the turn.
Doomben has a lot of similarities to Moonee Valley despite the much longer
home straight.
Good leaders and on pace runners often kick away on entering the home
straight opening up a winning break.
