For those that are interested here are some real TAB statistics that I thought may be of interest. Note that these are based on account betters only at one of the TABs - for obvious reasons you cannot get stats on over-the-counter profit/loss details.
Number of regular punters (regular being defined as at least 50 bets in a 1 year period) who make a profit: 90.8% lose money 9.2% make at least $0.10 profit 6.3% make $50/year 1.3% make $1000/year 0.4% make $10000/year 0.1% make $25000/year Looking at the $25000+ per year group: Only 1 made more that $100000 (but he made a LOT more) They all get a return on investment of between 6% and 8%. They all placed an average of at lest 5000 bets per month. There average bet is between $3 and $8 (so they place a lot of small bets) In order of number of bets placed (from highest to lowest) they bet on Trifecta, Quinella, Exacta, Win, EachWay, Doubles, Place If you order it by value then it is Trifecta, Quinella, Win, EachWay, Exacta, Place, Double [ This Message was edited by: becareful on 2002-05-15 10:48 ] [ This Message was edited by: becareful on 2002-05-15 11:10 ] |

Interesting stats there becareful, and exactly what I thought but I would have thought the losing punters would have been more around 95%...There's hope for us yet.
 The big bettors...I mean really big go to the course though or have an offcourse bookie account, so the ratio would change if those figures were included. |
