I have been backing up to 4 horses in the same race, but only when the odds permit which is all the time. However, when a race comes along I take advantage and bet up to $500 ensuring a profit if one of the horses wins.

I stress, this doesn't always happen. With this betting stratergy I have turn a $100 bank into $700 in four months.

How many races a week, on average, are suitable? And in what circumstances do the "odds permit"?

careful now mad, plenty around here dont like that type of betting, likely to try & talk you around, regardless of results...

Rubbish, betting up to $500 with a $700 bank is seat of the pants betting, we love and respect that sort of thing.

Today at Werribee there was a small field. It was race 7.

I left out the odds on Favourite and backed 1,4,6 The total outlay was $100 for a return of $185.

My belief is to leave out the favourite and back the rest of the field. As we all know in small fields the favourite will lose more time than win.

By my calculations, if you'd invested that $100 at AusTOTE, after up to 5% commission, you would have netted at least $210.74.

Those runners were showing $4.20, $5.85 & $23.95.


With traditional near 20% rakes, backing more than 1 runner in a race to win is typically a mug-play.

But now with AusTOTE and Betfair that gambit invites serious consideration.

And what makes the 4 selected better than the non selected horses?

Hey there, I am interested in the concept of backing 3 or 4 horses in a race as you can see by my similar post that I left here under the heading of "Fav Stats etc".

May I ask what criteria you are working on to determine if a certain race is a qualifying race to bet on, or not. I'm basically looking at races of up to around 11 or 12 starters, and where the fav eases out to a figure beyond $3.

But I am still open to more suggestions here,
