And great price too As it turned out the race was made to order for the gelding with Hooley Dooley setting a cracking pace early (at one stage was leading by as much as 12 lengths!) Sikmrex joined in approaching the turn ensuring the continued fast tempo and then the swoopers arrived with My Thornbird outstaying them all for a gutsy win. It was revealed after the race that My Thornbird was almost retired back in September after a series of disappointing performances. The trainer gave him ‘one more chance’ and fortunately My Thornbird showed enough zest for Durrant to persevere with his campaign.
