Just wondering
Hi!
I receive regular offers for upgrading a rating software , which I haven't used for years. Many on this forum use it and good luck to them. What puzzles me is this, every time I receive these offers it tells me how profitable the software is, what great new selection methods were added etc. So I was more than surprised with last week's offer, saying "some users stated they can't afford the full amount of upgrade", (we are talking here a few hundred bucks not thousands), hence an offer was made to pay in installments!!! I don't know about you, but it really made me think, why on earth would I buy an upgrade to something that doesn't even provide enough profit to pay for itself? So what is it? the worst sales pitch I heard in a long time, or a rare outburst of honesty? Cheers |

Gday Marcus I use the program you are talking about, and find it does indeed pay for itself, even in the hands of an inexperienced driver like myself. One thing that is very good about the program is that I am able to produce full fields in a format that I can use and then apply my own handicapping formulas.. to produce my own ratings, which are in profit. Without this piece of software, what I do would take hours, this software does it all for me in seconds... Having said that the program is much more than a ratings spitter outterer. The program now provides 3 sets of ratings in it's base configuration.. The form required to make the thing work is cheap as chips.. and from what I am reading it really does not need form to be useful, in some configurations It is a good tool for what I do... The ratings it produces are not bad at all, I think they break even or are slightly in profit, flat stakes. But they are a good base platorm to do your OWN work on.. and that's how I use it. This software allows YOU to test YOUR OWN system rules to work out if ya can make a profit or not... I for one will not bag the software, nor the writer.. I find it very very useful, as a tool for formulating my ratings and organising form in a way in which I can use with no probs at all. I also find after sales service to be very good as well. As for the profitabilty of the program, it is only as good as what you are prepared to feed it... It can hold your hand and give you selections, and lots of them do win... but I would rather do my own.. and it is a very good platform for that. |

Can we have some proof of that? Please? Even losing a little would be acceptable. Quote:
Neither will I, has nothing to do with him personally, or the software, my question was intended to point out the error in the sales pitch, and unintended consequencies thereof. But since you have mentioned that you have to put in a lot of work to make your own profitable selections, allow me to make my own remarks. My view is that if I buy a rating programme that's the end of it. I want it to produce selections which are returning a profit, without my input, apart from normal maintenance and update of data. I am sure you did not read my previous postings re. having the satisfaction of selecting your winners yourself, versus paying for it. I used to pay for it (including the one in question) and it did not work, so I had to develop my own rating which DOES produce a profit just running the programme and betting on the selections. The point I wanted to make then, and I am making now, is that I do not enjoy collecting data, update databases, do the rating etc. but I DO ENJOY WINNING money. I acknowledge, that some people do like to roll their own, whether winning or losing, I wish good luck to them, I would still prefer to pay for it, provided it delivered the goods, just as I pay for the plumber, dentist or any other expert, life is too short to learn all trades! Good luck! |
Gday Marcus
for information re the ratings this proggy produces I would suggest you contact the author.... His customer support is pretty good and usually gets back to you (email) within a day. There is an independant monitor of all things ratings, for the life of me I cant think of their name... they monitor all ratings around the place and rate this program produces favourably. For the money you can't go wrong... You mention time taken to collate the info needed to make your own ratings... you have missed the point of this program it is a tool nothing more... It takes me about 3 minutes to do a full saturdays racing, usually 10 or 11 meetings about 1000 horses, using this program, it used to take me literally hours... A decent Excel macro running decent formulas takes all the time outta it... (many thanks to my mate who wrote the macro) I can't reccomend this proggy highly enough.. it is a real labour saver, and I think with sensible staking approaches you will make money from the raw...ratings the program produces... Then again it may not be for you... the choice is obvioulsy yours Cheers |
