2005's Top 100 Class Races
These are listed in descending order of quality and class.
They are my ratings based on class of race and strength of field compared to other races in the SAME year. RACE NAME RACE DISTANCE RACE CLASS What do you think? If you disagree, please state why, it will help me refine the ratings in future ;) |
Already I have noticed that too much credbility has been given to some 2 and 3yo races.
Will make adjustments and repost the amended ratings later. |
I've been up and down the list a few times and I can't seem to see the Gold Coast Magic Millions 2yo race. Is it there? I know the field was definitely lacking in strength compared to other years, but surely it should be rated ahead of a couple of the other 2yo races you've got there.
I also think you've rated WA racing too highly!!! |
bit of a drop for the C.F. ORR from last year!
would have thought the cox plate would be highest- melbourne cup lacked class over the entire field... i agree with sportz abot WA racing BTW sportz i think you'll find the MM is not there because it is not listed or group level? |
Chuck,
The Inglis 2yo races and the Adelaide Magic Millions aren't listed or group races and they're on the list. And I'm sure most would agree that the Gold Coast Magic Millions (despite a weaker than usual field last year) is stronger than those races. |
Also think you've perhaps got the Turnbull Stakes a bit too low, Chrome.

also,
metropoliton = too high (railings was only reason it was high) australian cup > victoria derby australia stakes = too low |
Hi Chuck and Sportz,
I appreciate all ideas/feedback, as this is not set in concrete and is a work in progress. Firstly, Magic Millions is not included at all as it was not run on a Metro track, even though it was high class, only Metro track races were included. I'm trying to achieve a balance of horses in the field (horse class) and race class (Group rating & prizemoney). I already have some adjustments needed to the younger aged races which need implementing and also the rejig may see the Perth races drop a few notches. Comes to a point of sacrificing one angle for another, which always puts something on the wrong rung :( I'll repost my final ratings probably next week, when I have time to rerun it all. Thanks for the input. |
Nice effort Chrome.
If these races are being rated on class, I think the Cox Plate is the top of the tree. Any trainer would agree with that. The Melb. Cup ends up with some very ordinary runners because of the distance. The stand-out of the Cup is the prize-money not the overall class of the runners. |
Well done, I am sure that would of taken a lot of effort. I'm not 100% sure on the criteria, but maybe the Newmarket is a little low? Or the Blue Diamond is a little high? I.e. comparing Alinghi and Fastnet Rock to the likes of Undoubtedly Opportunity and Seidnazar.
