Hong Kong racing on Betfair

Quote:
Customers have been asking for years, soon it will be here: Hong Kong racing is coming to the Betfair Exchange.

From September 1, 2019, Betfair will be offering markets on all Sha Tin and Happy Valley meetings.

Betfair CEO, Tim Moore-Barton, said in a video statement "I'm really excited to allow punters to legally bet against each other on some of the best horse racing in the world."
It's finally here.

Beat me to it. How good is this.

Anyone going to the event?

I probably won't be able to make it but it should be a good night.

And could be over before its really started, cease and desist letter sent to betfair from the HKJC.

Be interesting to see what comes out of it, guessing betfair will have to back down or face legal action, cant see the HKJC changing there tune towards betting exchanges.

Anyone got a citibet hook up?

For those wanting to read about it.

I had incorrectly assumed by reading the statement issued that they had received approval through the HKJC. Interesting if they didn't as they would have known this was going to happen. If they knew this was going to happen then they must have some legal precedent on why they can do it.

This will be an interesting fight to watch.

I have been approached several times. It can be arranged easily enough, I even checked it out for a short period (no bets placed). I don't trust it. I wouldn't recommend it and I would steer clear of it.

Its already ethically wrong (not paying fees/taxes) and its likely owned or operated by people you don't want to meet in a dark alley. There are enough legitimate operators to choose from (betfair being the easiest for winning punters).

Not really. They have withdrawn the "in play" facility which is a major point of contention.
Just went in play. So you're correct.

We listened to you and we launched Hong Kong racing on the Exchange, but regrettably, with immediate effect we will no longer be offering the product.

Despite not being in breach of any law or regulation by offering Hong Kong racing, we have decided to pause offering the product and continue to reach out to the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC). We see ourselves very much aligned with statements consistently made by the HKJC that customer activity captured through legal, transparent channels (such as Betfair), rather than opaque exchanges (such as Citibet) is fundamental for the integrity and success of racing.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may have caused you. Whilst we’re disappointed, we won’t stop working hard to provide you the best betting experience possible.
That was quick!
