Hi Sportz

"STRASBOURG???

Fair dinkum, if it didn't have Bart training it, it would have been 200-1. I didn't even consider it.

Some weird results today!!! Then again, that's usually he case on Derby Day."

Yep some surprises alright...a few placings that paid better than some winners, but I had to wait until matey to deliver and put my feet up..doubled up on matey and had a a small saver on prosecution just in case.

Did it harder than Mav who got the chocolates early. Yep Lotteria was a great price really...

Pleased to get out ok and I still have a roughy in mining silver and reclaim to go around.

All the best!

Well, the thing I'm most pleased about today was working out which races NOT to bet on. I gave races 1, 8 & 9 a miss at Flemington and very glad I did as I would have done my dough.

maverick1993 29th October 2005 06:06 PM

not much a betting man when it comes to the trots..but have a strong tip about Be good johnny in the big race at Albion Park,,will have to have something on him..

maverick1993 30th October 2005 07:50 AM

TheAvenger 30th October 2005 09:08 AM

Hello Gents:

I haven't seen the scratchings yet for today, but the U.S. Australian racing site picks the following specials at Mornington: R-1 #7,CALIFORNIA DANE R-2 #9,FLYING LANGFUHR R5 #1 CANARY ISLANDS R-9 #9 DUEL COMMAND. The other venue, Colac, I have never bet at before. The specials there are: R-1 , #11 and #5 TERHEEB R-4 #1,DINGLE BAY R-5 #2 LATLANZ. These specials usually have better than a 50% strike rate, but are frequently at a small price. Racing starts earlier already, Sportz. Around 8 P.M. my time.

I just finished playing the Breeder's Cup races at Belmont N.Y.. I did pretty well betting these races, about 60% on the exactas.

Good luck today if you have a punt.

Glenn

Sportz 30th October 2005 10:54 AM

The Starcraft result didn't surprise me at all. How could he expect him to win at his first attempt on the dirt against top class horses which race on the dirt all the time?

TheAvenger 30th October 2005 11:05 AM

Sportz:

Exactly. I threw many others out in these races for precisely that reason. I wouldn't back a top notch American dirt track horse making his turf debut in Australia either.

mad 30th October 2005 02:29 PM

Good old Big Mick did the right thing, @ $4.60 no complaints here. Tyvm!

maverick1993 30th October 2005 04:21 PM

well done Mad..
another good day so far..
Good Old Mick suited by the big track at the Sunny coast...
Lester cove repaid my faith in him..was due ,,he's been flying of late..
and did you see Arena Miss..came from last to just miss by a whisker..thought it was an ordinary ride..
hopes on Overtothree e/w in the last at good odds..

today was a bonus day for me..as i used Be Good Johny's winnings from last night for my stake today...
just love the punt...who needs to work :)

hope you guys had a good one..

maverick1993 30th October 2005 04:25 PM

lol...do i get anything for last place :)

maverick1993 30th October 2005 06:39 PM

A couple in the stable for tomorrow.
Musselbrook
*Desktop Magic ..in great form.,,the barrier is alittle worry ..but very consistent and deserves to break through against this lot..
*Mr Kiseki...Always runs on hardly ever wins...gets to a grade he can win now..robbo will stoke him up..doesnt win here send him to the bush..
Hamilton
Statice is another i have some time for..just a bit inconsistent for me..but has shown some ability in the past and in way better races than this..might get tempted ..depends on what price i get..

lets hope the run continues ..and continues into Tuesday..

Still have 1 double alive in the cup...
Railings/ Hugs Dancer at 1501/1 ....1 out of 100 lol...not a great strikerate but who cares if i get this one up..
I'll be on Railings in the cup...but if he does get beat i hope its by Old Hugsy :)

Mav, seen in the other thread you picked oahu, well now that its scratched feel free to unload on soveriegn miss. Its my mates horse and its run at caulfield from a crap barrier was full of merit and will bolt this in today in a much easier field. If the rain persists (meant to be clearing up) he will be a late scratching but very confident with this.
In newcastle watch for a massive plunge at the track in race 5 on cheap as. Know the connections here and has been set for this, Id reccomend taking fixed odds early where possible as it will be sure to tighten in late.
Ascot race 1 eugene blue in his first race is set for a big one. From all accounts has been looking the goods in track work and should be around the mark. Other selections in adelaide are some kinda storm in race 1, and facilikate in race 5.

Mav, you would be pleased to know Ive just bought into another 2 horses, 1 is a colt (18 months old) and is closely related to MERLOT NOW, the other is a filly from akhadane, which is starting to produce a few winners..... Both un-named at this stage but will keep everyone informed..

Good luck to all for a great day of racing!!!!

Hi Luv2...would love to know the breeding of your little Colt....Bad luck about Soverign Miss..a bit short for me ,,hope it wasnt your cash on her :)
how olds the filly ??
I have a filly by Kaaptive Edition i have high hopes for..also an Admiralty filly..
a Kbenjar colt and also a 1/2 share in a Sequalo ,,,
Fingers crossed one of them wins a few races :)

luv2bet 31st October 2005 12:01 PM

Got the two **** about face in that earlier post. The first horse is a chestnut filly foaled 6th november 2004. (danehill)
SIRE, AKHADAN.. Out of a sister to stakes winner Best Western, sire of 86 runners, 36 winners, including Almost never, merlot now, redadan, absolute heaven, superdan, nadella,etc.. The dam is SUPER PLAY, by kildare pride, this is her 6th live foal, her 5th foal is a 2 year old. Dam of 4 foals to race all being winners. We may not have this horse for long as theres been some interest in it, so will probably be put in the magic millions sale, I personally would like to keep it.
The other horse is from way of light (sire) and swan hill magic (dam). By ashkalani and 1st dam via spiga. Its an 18 month old colt that we should have a bit of fun with. Another horse I have an interest in is racing at mount gambier on friday. Its called Noisy princess and depending on the track conditions should run well. Doubt there will be any odds about it though because there are only 6 horses nominated for that race. Its trained down that way and needs a run.
Probably no world beaters among these, but its a ****** great day out to go and watch your horses run.
How far are your young ones away from racing Mav?? Can see a few winners coming from that stable.. good luck with em'.

maverick1993 31st October 2005 10:47 PM

Nothing better than watching your own horse race..even if it a donkey..
Mine are awhile off racing,, they're only babies,,,I have a interest in a jumper with Eric Musgrove..will let you know when he's racing next..
I find breeding alot of fun and its more a hobby than anything....out of all of them the Kaaptive edition filly is very impressive..not a popular sire but he stands in the middle of nowhere .has a excellent pedigree and was a good racehorse..the dam was handy on the track ..actually beat Lets elope in NZ before the mighty mare came over here and won everything...
she's my favourite..also have an interest in a Kenfair Colt who was born this morning..very healthy i hear and the dams doing very well also..

No Luck today..the one bet on Desktop magic who tried hard ..Mr Kiseki always finds a way of losing,,missed the start by a mile this time..,,and Statice came 3rd..havent seen that replay yet..

Tomorrow
Melbourne
*Scarlet Scene *Pentelikon, *Mr Magoo, *El Zahia/Moggs.
Brisbane
*Prend, *Moonbi Nymph
Adelaide
*Merlot now

Have already backed Railings earlier this week,,will have a few trifectas and 1st4s in the cup always good value....and will have my fingers crossed Hugs Dancer causes an upset for my double .. :)

Good Luck all..

MELBOURNE CUP

Well, as far as I'm concerned, there are 4 major winning chances in the Cup, but quite a few place chances behind them. In my opinion, 1 MAKYBE DIVA, 6 EYE POPPER, 7 RAILINGS & 22 LEICA FALCON have the best form and they will be the ones I will be concentrating my betting around. Makybe Diva is in brilliant form and I'd love to see her win, but my head tells me that perhaps the Caulfield Cup form around Railings, Eye Popper and Leica Falcon could work out to be the way to go. All three turned in terrific runs in that race which has been the best guide to the Melbourne Cup in recent years. No reason why it won't be the case again.

Any number of other chances behind those top four. I'm a big fan of Mr Celebrity and it would not surprise me at all if he was to get up here with such a light weight. Similarly, Vinnie Roe must be a top chance given his performances in this race the past two years. Perhaps he would like a wetter track though. Other possible chances for placings are 3, 8, 11, 12, 13 & 14. A word of warning though. Almost without fail in recent years, a big roughie has found it's way into the placings, so think about that when looking at trifectas.

Summing up though, I'll be concentrating on numbers 1, 6, 7 & 22 and next best I think are 23 & 2.

MELBOURNE CUP RATINGS
01 MAKYBE DIVA - 77.0 - $5.30
07 RAILINGS - 77.0 - $5.30
22 LEICA FALCON - 76.5 - $6.20
06 EYE POPPER - 76.0 - $7.50
23 MR CELEBRITY - 74.0 - $13.90
02 VINNIE ROE - 73.0 - $18.90

Thanks, Sportz. We only get Flemington today, but what a great show. We see much we normally don't during regular racing. I love the Cup. Tough race to handicap, though. Good luck.

Hmmm, it can't possibly win with our weight on it. :D

I've started okay today. Had a good win bet on Candy Vale, and thanks to a couple of roughies, I've done okay with any2 bets on the 2nd and 3rd at Flemington.

w924 1st November 2005 11:47 AM

Good for you Sportz...looks like its going to be one of those days..if the past copuple of flem races are anything to go by..

. Re Prend its a special and late mail on nswtab.com so im real worried about it now..that usually spells the end..lol

Sportz 1st November 2005 11:50 AM

Yep, it's carrying almost as much weight as Makybe Diva! :D

w924 1st November 2005 12:23 PM

well Sportz your selections are looking pretty good at the moment. Im going to Randwick to run for cover and have a dip on Lucky Night..

Sportz 1st November 2005 01:04 PM

Geez, Cianara was a bit unlucky. That would have been a good result. Never mind, still not bad each way.

w924 1st November 2005 01:04 PM

well thank goodness for the 1400m "Outsider" outsiude barrier horse Hillfa! just love those wide runners at Flem..

Sportz 1st November 2005 01:07 PM

The one in the last isn't hopeless either.

w924 1st November 2005 01:08 PM

I needed that one Sportz..lol..missed the latter stages of the race..only heard hillfa called as second last at the turn...had a customer to attend to..was a nice surprise to hear the commentator talk after the race

w924 1st November 2005 01:10 PM

SportzThe one in the last isn't hopeless either.

I agree..its picked the fave at Kembla grange too, but i'll leave that one out o bubble ohbill..

PS i got worried when they backed the living daylights out of lucky night..it ran accordingly lol

Just heard the Hillfa replay Sportz..the gods were smiling on me...

BJ 1st November 2005 01:59 PM

Well I just had a bit of a go at Vinnie Roe at $18.

Also have a trifecta of 1 / 6,7,22 / F

Have $20 on Eye Popper at $8 from a couple of days ago, but the talk this morning says that it has already run its race.

My thoughts on Makybe Diva say that the connections gave themselves every opportunity to pull out of the event. Everybody wants her to win, and I don't think she would be running if the connections didn't think she was a genuine chance.

My system bet is on her at $60 @ $5.2.

Have a few running for me, but the best bet of the day is the cans of Jimmie in the fridge....

Have a good one everybody....

Sportz 1st November 2005 02:15 PM

Well, what do you say. Never going to see anything like this again.

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!! :D

thefan 1st November 2005 02:26 PM

She looked no chance of losing. Great run Id say... A good way to say she might not run,They made it for her! The crowd was behind her...she did it.

mad 1st November 2005 02:36 PM

Wooooo Hoooooooooo The Diva, The Greatest!

Not a bad run for second On a Juene.

Railings, Eye Popper - Hello, what happened????????
They must be finishing soon - Lol

BJ 1st November 2005 02:40 PM

The thing is, she did it too easily. As I said, with all the expectation, I really don't think they would have ran her if she wasn't a genuine chance.

Pity we won't see 4 in a row....

w924 1st November 2005 02:49 PM

well what you can you say? amazing really. missed the tri as per usual, but did grab the $182 quin with on a juene so happy enough. Thrilled that the diva won so easilt..wow!

and Prend carried all that weight and still got up lol

mad 1st November 2005 02:57 PM

Onya w924,
Very impressed with On a Juene, didn't see that coming at all!

Sportz 1st November 2005 03:04 PM

Yeah, for the 4th year in a row, I think I had 5 of the first 6 horses across the line, yet missed the trifecta. Mad at myself for leaving On A Jeune out (I actually had it in a sweep). I did collect the quinella and any2, and of course I'm VERY happy with the Diva winning, so I'm certainly not complaining. Could have been better though.

BJ 1st November 2005 03:17 PM

I am disappointed leaving On A Jeune out too.. The trifecta I had written down was 1/ 7,16,22/ F.

Pity I double checked and realised that the 16 should have been 6, hence putting the correct bet on but missing the trifecta..... Would have been a mistake muchly appreciated....

Sportz 1st November 2005 03:23 PM

An outsider almost always finishes in the placings somewhere. It's just that I'm usually not game enough to spend the money to get it. If you thought Makybe Diva would win, you could have simply done Mav's trick and taken her with the field. Would have cost $253 for a half and you get back about $3700+. Sounds easy after the event.

mad 1st November 2005 03:25 PM

I don't know how you guys feel but the Geelong Cup is fast turning into a reasonable form race for the Cup.
