Would you believe there were more than 100 potential Olympians stopped from competing at the London Games because of doping!

MyHatMyCoat 23rd September 2012 12:30 AM

Wasn't aware of that JB1, but since your post I did a bit of research. More than 6000 anti-doping tests were carried out including every medalist who stepped onto the podium. Huge job as you can imagine, still around 50% of the competing Olympians were not tested.

Using the Lance Armstrong case as an example, how many (enhanced) medal winners didn't get detected at the time, especially going back a bit

Test samples are held for 8 years following each Olympics & can be retested during that period & disciplinary proceedings can occur
For example earlier this year, drug c h e a t s from the Athens Olympics were stripped of their medals, 8 years after winning them

Interesting pre-Olympic news. The World Anti-Doping Agency has reinstated the drug-testing lab in Rio de Janeiro, the host city of the 2016 Olympics. The lab had been suspended following mistaken results. The Rio lab is expected to test samples from the 2014 World Cup. Hopefully they’ll get things right.

Gee that's got to be a bit of a worry! Hopefully the World Anti-Doping Agency will have 'backup' drug-testing facilities in place, for the 2016 Olympics.

Rogan Josh 10th January 2013 12:19 AM

How about backup drug-testing facilities for the 2014 World Cup ;)
