Consolation prizes for Fiorente & It's A Dundeel.
Fiorente was named champion stayer while It's A Dundeel was the champion middle distance performer.
Both horses are now in their first season at stud.

Chris Munce has changed hats
Just announced retiring from riding to become a trainer

rhino82 12th January 2015 08:38 AM

Vale Doriemus

As per racenet:

"A paddock accident has claimed the life of the 1995 Caulfield and Melbourne Cup winner Doriemus, who was euthanised on Sunday.

The 24 year-old suffered a foot injury at Victoria's Living Legends, where he was one of the original lodgers in 2006, and was unable to be saved.

The best runner sired by Norman Pentaquod, Doriemus won nine of his 44 races and earned $3,588,412, first trained by Jim Gibbs and then Lee Freedman."

Read an article the other day regarding Chris.

He now has 15 horses in work. Rode at 53kg & now trains at 53kg. So is still staying shape, busy as a bee. He reckons that pre-race nerves are far more acute than when he was riding & the victories, even small ones, seem more personal & at times, joyful. The thrill of his first winner as a trainer was better than his first winner as a jockey.

His roles now span from being a salesman to a shrink. A conditioner, psychologist, physiotherapist & horse whisperer to his team.

Doesn't believe in doing it (training) half-heartedly. "If you are going to do it, you might as well do it properly. It is a business.’’

Let's hope his efforts are fully rewarded.

And another couple of winners since. Wicked Intent lumped 60kgs to win at Ipswich in good time. And Savannah Dream made it two wins in a row, winning at Doomben last week.

City winners strike rate of 24.4% although that might have dropped slightly, more recently
