Melbourne Cup Day
Tuesday, 2 November, 2010
We rated eight races from the very tough, wide open Flemington meeting and found four Top Four Winners.

Here are Top Four winners with bookmaker or tote odds of $4.00 or better available. If the horse won after R4 we'll indicate with R5+, otherwise the horse won in the first four races of the day:

Palomares $5.80 (R5+)
Jersey Lily $5.50
Launay $5.50 (R5+)

First Fours and Trifectas:
As expected it was a very tough Melbourne Cup meeting with wide open races and big fields. We didn't have much of a chance when a number of our rated horses were scratched.
In two of the races we only had four horses and in another three races only five horses.

Saturday, 6 November, 2010
We rated 13 races from Randwick and Flemington for 11 Top Four Winners.

Here are Top Four winners with bookmaker or tote odds of $4.00 or better available. If the horse won after R4 we'll indicate with R5+, otherwise the horse won in the first four races of the day:

Playwright $7.00 at Flemington

First Fours and Trifectas:
With small fields at Randwick and favourites winning or placing in eight of the nine races at Flemington it was not a day for value.

Sandown Cup Day
Saturday, 13 November, 2010
We rated 15 races from Rosehill and Sandown Hillside for seven Top Four Winners.

Here are Top Four winners with bookmaker or tote odds of $4.00 or better available. If the horse won after R4 we'll indicate with R5+, otherwise the horse won in the first four races of the day:

Altier $7.50 at Rosehill (R5+)
Geared Up $6.40 at Rosehill (R5+)
Avenue $4.60 at Sandown
Macedonian $4.20 at Sandown

First Fours and Trifectas:
Not the best of days, though race selection is important such as checking the odds of the rated horses and not automatically wagering in every race.
Sandown R5 $432.40 trifecta (top 5) offered some value.

We rated 14 races from Rosehill and Moonee Valley for nine Top Four Winners.

Here are Top Four winners with bookmaker or tote odds of $4.00 or better available. If the horse won after R4 we'll indicate with R5+, otherwise the horse won in the first four races of the day:

Doosra Diamond $6.00 at Moonee Valley

With many small fields there were poor betting races and poor value.

We rated 14 races from Randwick Kensington and Sandown Hillside for 10 Top Four Winners on a day where Sandown was marred by many scratchings.

First Fours and Trifectas:
With many smallish fields and odd results it wasn't the ideal day. There were six races at Sandown with fields of seven or fewer horses.
Here is a good collect which returned more than 15 times the outlay from one of the few decent betting races:

Please note:

In our newsletters here we have at times indicated how some first fours and trifectas could have been obtained. However on racedays some judgement and skill are needed for this.

For example the same betting method will not work each race, such as boxing selections, or taking the top horse as a standout to win. Some races will also need to be avoided because the odds are not there.

Even with good information playing trifectas and first fours is not a licence to print money. Intelligent use of the information and a lot of discipline is required.

While there can be substantial collects for relatively small outlays there can also be long runs of outs with various betting methods used.
