We rated 18 races. There were four winners on top and 11 winners in the top two with some excellent value winners.

Here are the value winners with bookmaker/tote odds available:

Top rated winners:
Time Matters $7.20 at Caulfield.
Madame Pedrille $8.00 at Rosehill.
O'lonhro $5.50 at Rosehill.
Vision And Power $4.90 at Rosehill.
Despite the Heavy track, the ratings held up quite well at Rosehill, which was rated for a Slow track.

Second rated winners:
Symphony Miss $9.50 at Caulfield.
Damselfly $5.50 at Caulfield

Longshots:
Some members looking for value in the ratings used them to back the Blue Diamond Stakes winner at Caulfield, Reward For Effort, $22.00.

We rated 15 races. There were two winners on top, eight winners in the top two and 11 winners in the top three. However, due to a large number of scratchings and small fields there was not much value around. In addition the Eagle Farm track was downgraded to a Heavy 9.

Centurytwentyone $4.60 at Moonee Valley.

Other winners:
Some members looking for value might have backed $10.00 winner Mr Ubiquitous in a field of 7 at Randwick. They might also have considered Sam's Express, $6.00 and Vocalic, $5.20, both winners in fields of 7 at Eagle Farm.

Trifectas/first fours:
With large numbers of scratchings affecting the ratings plus numerous small fields it was not really an ideal day to be looking for many trifectas or first fours. The value is usually destroyed in small fields.

In our newsletters here we have at times indicated how some first fours and trifectas could have been obtained. However on racedays some judgement and skill are needed for this.

For example the same betting method will not work each race, such as boxing selections, or taking the top horse as a standout to win. Some races will also need to be avoided because the odds are not there.

Even with good information playing trifectas and first fours is not a licence to print money. Intelligent use of the information and a lot of discipline is required.

While there can be substantial collects for relatively small outlays there can also be long runs of outs with various betting methods used.
