4/11/2003 edition Melbourne Cup Tips How does your Cup horse rate? Jardines Lookout No1 Jardine's Lookout finished a short head second to Persian Punch in the Group 2 Goodwood Cup over 3219 metres on July 31 this year. Persian Punch has twice placed in the Melbourne Cup. Jardine's Lookout also finished in front of Mamool the start before, but as that race was over 4023 metres it has little relevance to the Cup. Proven at the distance, Jardine's Lookout must rate a strong chance, though in the English way of training he has not started since August 19. Mamool No2 Mamool is coming into this race off two Group 1 wins in Germany where he carried 60kgs. But the fields were only five and eight runners. The horse has a boom on him, but must rate a query in a big field and on a rain affected track. Mummify No3 This year's Caufield Cup winner is a major query after finishing a well beaten eighth in the Mackinnon Stakes on Saturday. Danny Nikolic eased the gelding down believing something was amiss. Track conditions also may not suit. Millstreet No4 The second string runner of teh Godolphin team to Mamool. However it doesn't always pan out that their favoured runner finishes in front, with recent placegetters being Give The Slip and Central Park. Millstreet's last win, five starts ago in October last year was a 2414 Listed race in Ireland. He hasn't raced since September 12. However first up in June this year over 2400 metres he was only beaten 1.8 lengths in Group 1 Weight for Age company in France, where he led to the home turn and did carry 61kg. Local jockey Patrick Payne, who will ride Millstreet, is a top rider of leaders. Provided Millstreet doesn't have to work too hard from the barrier, Millstreet might give them something to catch. This edition of Punt to Win: Copyright ©1998-present. OZmium Pty. Ltd.
