30/8/2002 edition Victory Vein Wins Here are some of the comments made about Victory Vein who resumed from a six months' spell last Saturday at Warwick Farm and won the $150,000 Group 2 3YO Fillies set weights Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200 metres. Racecaller Ian Craig: "Victory Vein although tiring a shade - ah, this super filly is too good." Cut to the Sky Racing host: "Oh, stunning performance, wasn't it? The champion 2YO of last season. She's back and she's back in devastating form." Next, to Sky Racing's Jo McKinnon who said to Victory Vein's trainer Bede Murray: "Congratulations. Today she was really in a race of her own." To which Bede Murray sensibly replied that Victory Vein got a "bit tired". Jo McKinnon then added, "If she could improve after what she did last preparation, it looks like she has." From the comments made by the racecaller to the Sky Racing
employees you would have thought Victory Vein, who started at the short
odds of $1.75, donkey licked the field. The fact was, only trainer Bede
Murray did not go over the top. Victory Vein tired and fell in. Chatelaine was
finishing right over the top of Victory Vein and only missed out by a
long neck. This edition of Punt to Win: You Need Top Odds It
is just about impossible to get a high enough
strike rate backing short priced tote favourites
and the poor value tote horses to make up for
the big unders on the tote. Short
