26/4/2002 edition Betting Tips This horse will race well Before the second race at Rosehill racecaller Ian Craig said the following on Sky Racing: "I was just commenting earlier to our radio audience about Klazig. She has not budged from the time bookies opened for business here, has not budged in or out a solitary point, half a point, quarter of a point. Normally in this particular scenario the horses race well." What???? If I backed Klazig with a bookie at $5.00 and saw a little money for Klazig push the mare's price from $5.00 into $4.80 should I ask the bookie to refund my bet? Would the betting ring support mean she was going to race poorly? Similarly if her price eased a touch from $5.00 to $5.50 would that affect the way she raced? Racecallers should stick to what most of them are good at doing. That is calling races. As for Ian Craig, his calls at times during the Sydney Autumn Carnival were very frustrating. Was it just me? I thought he called a list of horses, one after the other. That is defeating the purpose of a race call, which is to let the listeners know where their horses are running - presenting a talking picture of the race. Brisbane racecaller, Alan Thomas, points out where the horses actually are in the running, and doesn't just give you a list of names, which is not much help when a big field is racing. Continued This edition of Punt to Win: You Need Top Odds It is just about
impossible to get a high enough strike rate backing short
priced tote favourites and the poor value tote horses to
make up for the big unders on the tote. Did you back any of these winners recently?
