22/3/2002 edition Betting Tips and Strategies Chasing the Hawkes' winner On March 9 at only his third start, Swak won starting at odds of $15.00 at Doomben. So last Saturday at his next start, the two year old gelding was sent out the $2.40 favourite. Big blunder. He also went up in weight by two kilos to 56kg. plus had barrier nine in the field of 10. Swak settled well back and while running on well, never looked like a winner. As we keep repeating on this site, it is adviseable to only back Hawkes' trained horses at good odds. Leave them alone after they win if they are at short odds for their next start. Swak should have been backed at $15.00 and not backed next start at $2.40. Following the money on these horses has not been successful. However, we have noticed some of her horses winning at decent odds recently such as Manner Hill $20.30 and Restless $12.60 both at Rosehill last Saturday. It's worth following this up and keeping a look out for her horses at odds, particularly over distance races. Next
