21/3/2003 edition Gai Waterhouse Gai was as effervescent as usual when interviewed on Sky Racing shortly before the second race at Warwick Farm last Saturday. She said that 4YO gelding Contact Point deserved to be an "even money, odds on favourite" in the 2000 metres Transition Handicap. Two weeks earlier Contact Point was beaten by nearly five lengths in a Listed Handicap run over the same distance . For that solid defeat the gelding was rewarded with a two kilos rise in weight to 55kg. But at Warwick Farm the $2.50 starting price for Contact Point was huge value according to Gai Waterhouse's price assessment. Well, Contact Point was given every chance in the lead by jockey Danny Beasley. When challenged in the straight the gelding found little and missed a place in the eight horse race. Follow Gai Waterhouse and other trainers' public tips at your own risk. Gai Waterhouse is good at getting her horses fit, and with an effervescent personality also shows great confidence in her runners. But that doesn't mean you're going to make money by having the same confidence as Gai Waterhouse and then backing all her runners. We doubt that husband Robbie, a very astute bookmaker, would have agreed with her assessment of Contact Point's winning chances. This edition of Punt to Win: You Need Top Odds It
