So why back horses days before the feature races? Because you get good odds? Just work out the betting market percentages to dispel that myth. Is it important to know whether your horse can handle rain affected going? So why back a horse days before the race? How often do we find punters back a horse as favorite for a feature race like the Caulfield Cup or Doncaster Handicap only to find that the horse doesn't even start in the race? Horses get injured or lose form. Everyone who backed that horse has lost their money without even getting a run. Our advice is to never back a horse to win a race unless you are guaranteed a full refund of your bet should your horse be scratched. That of course also rules out betting on the feature doubles.
