17/11/2007 edition Horse Racing Betting Tips Horse racing track specialists There are significant differences between race tracks. For example, there are the tight turning Doomben and Moonee Valley tracks, with Moonee Valley having a very short home straight. Then there are spacious tracks like Flemington and Eagle Farm. As a punter you must know the differences between all horse race tracks. As a punter if you consistently ignore a horse's inferior performances at a particular track with an excuse like "It's just the way things pan out," then you'll also probably lose a lot of money. The way the horse races and its statistics at a track need to be properly examined. Is the horse a back marker? Is it a big, striding horse? Does it usually lead or race on the speed? Here are a few additional form factors to watch out for. 1. A horse with far superior wet track form may have a poor record at a particular track because most of its races at that track have been on Good rated tracks. 2. A horse may appear to have a poor record at a particular track, but has had bad luck in many of its races at that track or just missed out on places in strong company. Put it in a weaker race and despite no wins from nine starts at the track it then wins at big odds. 3. Barriers at some tracks are more important than at other tracks. For example, a horse that settles back in the field may have had a barrier like one at the tight turning Moonee Valley track and then when well back in the field and surrounded by other horses not been able to get a run at them in the short home straight. Next start in similar company at a spacious track like Flemington or Sandown it might come out at double figure odds and easily win. This edition of Punt to Win: 2007 Melbourne Cup Carnival Winners
