Betting Tips
Win with this Trainer

You can make good money backing Gai Waterhouse trained horses. But you must also be very careful. How could you have made money last week?

Let's have a look. Last Saturday is a typical example. Firstly our advice is to be very wary about any short priced horses trained by Gai Waterhouse.

In the 3YO Gold Coast Guineas Alibarber was a short priced $4.20 favourite in the field of 17. He finished second. By contrast Gai Waterhouse trained Miss Bussell won the race starting at $6.00 with an $8.50 dividend on SuperTab.

Later at the Gold Coast Kingsgate started the well supported $4.00 favourite in their $201,000 Group 2 Weight for Age feature race, an open field of 10. He finished fifth.

There was success with short priced $1.60 favourite Devilina in a restricted fillies and mares race at Randwick, but those short priced Gai Waterhouse trained commodities have proved to be anything but the good things their odds would indicate.

Interestingly, also at Randwick, lightly raced 3YO gelding Telescopic who was first up since the end of November, started at $9.00 and finished second by a short head to the stakes placed John Hawkes trained Heptonstall who was also first up.

The Gai Waterhouse first starter 2YO filly Chickens also won, despite easing from $3.20 to $6.50 at the track. (Unfortunately no such luck for tote punters who on the New South Walse tote got a miserable payout of $3.60.)

Gai Waterhouse also pulled off an amazing training feat, with Stoway winning first up over 1400 metres and paying $17.00 after last racing in December 2000. It is important to note that this above average 5YO gelding who had six wins from 16 starts was prepared for the race with not one, but three trials between March 22 and April 26.

It's becoming apparent that if you look for good odds you can get some excellent winners trained by Gai Waterhouse. But that is not always easy. Gai Waterhouse always makes herself available to the horse racing media and has no qualms about telling them how wonderful her horses are doing and how spot on they are for their races.

If you are patient, selective and ignore her "good things" you could well make some money.

You Need Top Odds

It is just about impossible to get a high enough strike rate backing short priced tote favourites and the poor value tote horses to make up for the big unders on the tote.
If you regularly get poor odds you must lose.

Remember short priced tote favourites
are losing bets.
