12/5/2007 edition Worst Horse Racing Bet of the Year? Talking about bad bets, last Saturday at Rosehill in a 3YO Class 3 over 1500 metres the John O'Shea trained gelding, Groundwork, was plunged from $4.40 to start as $3.50 favourite in the field of 11. Groundwork's only win from four starts was a Newcastle Maiden. Groundwork was second up from a spell of five months. His first up run over 1400 metres on April 11 over 1400 metres in similar company was hardly impressive. He finished sixth of 12, beaten by 2.6 lengths. On top of that a 24 day break for a second up run, rising in distance to 1500 metres, is hardly ideal. Our Gold Special, Price Of Truth won the race by three lengths, backed in on track from $6.00 to $5.00. We didn't even have Groundwork in our top eight. Groundwork finished tenth of the 11 runners. We were spot on. This edition of Punt to Win: 2006 Melbourne Cup Carnival Winners
