10/8/2013 edition Wagering on Horse Racing with Betting Tips When everyone confidently "knows" something is a certainty in horse racing you can expect it not to happen, or you are guaranteed to get under the odds about that horse winning, with the one exception being Black Caviar. But that champion horse was a freak! 1. Let's recall the 2006 Cox Plate that everyone knew was a match race between El Segundo and Racing To Win. Sure enough, neither won. El Segundo finished second while Racing To Win finished down the track. The race was won by the 2003 winner, Fields Of Omagh that paid the excellent odds of $22.00. Fields Of Omagh had also finished second in the 2004 Cox Plate and third in 2005. But everyone "knew" that a 9YO has never won the Cox Plate so the 9YO gelding Fields Of Omagh was completely ignored in the betting and dismissed by the racing commentators. The fact that Fields Of Omagh had got better with every one of its three runs in from a spell, finishing only 1.5 lengths away in Group 1 company at its start before the Cox Plate, was also ignored! 2. Everyone knew that the Japanese trained 6YO entire Delta Blues could not win the 2006 Melbourne Cup. Its outstanding third in the Caulfield Cup, a key form lead up race was completely dismissed. Why? Because everyone knew that its Australian jockey in the Caulfield Cup, Nash Rawiller, had been replaced by a Japanese hoop, Yasunari Iwata. The amount of bagging this jockey got by uninformed commentators in the racing media, which of course influenced the punters, had to be heard to be believed! Yasunari Iwata rode a brilliant race in the Melbourne Cup and of course Delta Blues won and paid over $20.00. 3.
John Hawkes and the Melbourne Trainers' Premiership Have a look at the table below. It shows how the John Hawkes' trained horses performed in July on Saturdays in Melbourne - the horses that everyone "knew" were primed for big runs so John Hawkes would win the trainers' premiership.
What an absolute disaster. 25 runners - not one winner!! Many were favourites. Nearly all these horses were kept very safe in the betting. As we repeatedly stress on this web site, what everyone "knows" in horse racing is guaranteed to provide you ways of losing your betting money long term. Nothing else. It can be no different, because horse racing is a negative sums game which always returns less money to the punters than is outlaid in bets.
