10/5/2002 edition Open Betting Races Open races do not mean value We'll keep hammering away at this one until enough people over time contact the racing media responsible and tell then to stop telling them that open betting races mean value. Before the last race of the day at Victoria Park, a 3YO Open, a wide open, terrible betting race, Sky Racing's Alf Matthews said, "..Open race. So you're going to get value whatever you like in this particular one. " That is not correct. How can it possibly be that the more open a race is, which means the less chances a punter has of backing a winner with one selection, the more value there is also for the punter? That is a blatant contradiction. Tell you what Alf Matthews, I'll offer you 20/1 about any single number of your choice coming up on a roulette wheel. To quote your words, "You're going to get value whatever you like." So I'll be quite happy to offer you that "value" all day every day. Will you take up the challenge? After all there is a winning number every spin. This edition of Punt to Win: You Need Top Odds It
is just about impossible to get a high enough
strike rate backing short priced tote favourites
and the poor value tote horses to make up for
the big unders on the tote. Did you back any of these
winners recently?
