10/5/2002 edition AdelaideBookmakers Very tight betting odds However, not one other filly firmed in any significant way. Many bookmakers of course also did not get hit for substantial amounts of money at the top odds of $5.00. The Listed 3YO Open over 2000 metres had a starting price market of 136%, with favourite Our Kazz backed in from $1.80 to $1.60 finishing third. That should have been a clean up for the bookies considering the amount of money bet on the race combined with tight market of 136%. Similarly an Open Listed Handicap over 1600 metres had a starting price market of 132%, with favourite Dandify, backed in from $3.50 to $2.80 because of the Damien Oliver jockey factor, finishing second. Another Carnival clean up winning race for the bookies. Adelaide bookmakers are not helping to generate betting interest in Adelaide racing with their overly tight betting markets. If anything, those betting markets will be counter productive for Adelaide racing. Our recommendation with regard to Adelaide racing is in general to take your betting dollars away from Adelaide bookmakers. If a non Adelaide bookmaker betting on Adelaide is prepared to offer you odds substantially better than what is available in the Adelaide betting ring then it is worthwhile betting on Adelaide racing with that bookmaker. But I wouldn't bet on that. We are also becoming increasingly concerned with the bookmaker betting markets in Brisbane. The markets are becoming very tight. Last Saturday the starting price market for the 3YO Group 2 Queensland Guineas was 135%. With a field of 19 runners plenty of punters thought they were getting "value" because 16 of the horses started at double figure odds. But 135% tells another story. The starting price market for the Group 2 Weight for Age Sir Byrne Hart Stakes over 1400 metres was 130%. That's just not good enough. Smarten up your act Brisbane bookmakers or we'll be forced to regularly highlight your betting markets on this site and recommend punters take their betting dollars elsewhere.
