9/8/2002 edition Trifecta Betting Tips Can you believe it? SuperTab held a trifecta pool of over $109,000 on the Bletchingly Stakes last Saturday, a five horse race won by Rubitano, who paid $1.40 for the win on SuperTab! On SuperTab the lucky trifecta winners collected $6.30 for their one dollar outlay. On the New South Wales tote the dividend was an even more paltry $4.80. How was it possible to make a profit? 1. Punters who boxed the five horses because "You can't
lose" found that for $60.00 they got back just $6.30 on SuperTab.
On the New South Wales tote with its $4.80 dividend that
was the equivalent of backing a $1.60 winner for selecting the first two
finishers in correct order, abysmal value. Our recommendation would have been to leave the race alone. Small fields are generally shocking trifecta betting races. The best size fields are between 10 to 14 runners where you have a chance of getting decent returns and do not have to outlay a fortune. However if there are short priced tote favourites in these races they can become poor trifecta betting races because if the tote favourite finishes in the first three the dividend will usually be wrecked. You Need Top Odds It
is just about impossible to get a high enough
strike rate backing short priced tote favourites
and the poor value tote horses to make up for
the big unders on the tote. Short
