Win at racing

9/8/2002 edition

Irrelevant Form Lines

After the second race at Caulfield was won by Choregraph, racecaller Greg Miles, said the following:

"Well he led today and he absolutely toyed with his opposition...It does underline the winning performance of I Scream back in June who came home with a withering run to beat this horse comfortably at his particular racecourse debut."

That was Choreograph's first run since being beaten at Sandown on June 15 by I Scream, who has not raced since.

Sandown and Caulfield are very different tracks. Some horses perform at Sandown and flop at Caulfield and vice versa. The Sandown track was also Slow on June 15, Caulfield last Saturday was Dead.

Choreograph also showed significant improvement since being beaten by I Scream at Sandown. At Caulfield he won by over two lengths carrying a weight of 55.5kg., which was 1.5kg. above the minimum allotted handicap. At Sandown, when beaten by I Scream, Choreograph only carried 52.5kg., which was only 0.5kg. above the minimum allotted handicap.

We assessed the win of I Scream on June 15 on its merits, looking at factors like luck in running, weight carried, sectional times etc. We were not hanging out to see how Choreograph performed last Saturday. It was absolutely irrelevant to us. Had Choreograph finished last instead of first, it would not have changed our assessment of I Scream's race debut win.

To win at racing you must use different angles/methods from the majority. Follow the formline myth and you will come up with the same results as most tipsters and just about every other punter.

You Need Top Odds

It is just about impossible to get a high enough strike rate backing short priced tote favourites and the poor value tote horses to make up for the big unders on the tote.

If you regularly get poor odds you must lose.

Short priced tote favourites
are losing bets.
