8/3/2002 edition Tote Pools What do you think a trifecta should pay when the winning horse paid $227.20 on the tote and the horse that came third paid $18.60 for the place? Make a guess. See if you come anywhere near. Well, when playing the exotics such as trifectas, quinellas and exactas the size of the tote pool is very, very important. For example if there was only $3000 in the pool any longshot combination which should pay much more than $3000 will not. The money is just not there in the tote pool to pay you should you collect. At the Saturday night Albion Park trots Lightning Banker won and paid $227.20 on the New South Wales tote, Fake Duke came second and paid $1.90 for the place and Richrare came third and paid $18.60 for the place. The trifecta paid a paltry $3298. Super Tab paid the best with shorter prices. Lightning Banker was only a $61.90 winner and Richrare paid only $11.80 for the place. The trifecta dividend was $9,824. pages Warning It is just about impossible
to get a high enough strike rate backing short priced tote favourites
and the poor value tote horses to make up for the big unders on
the tote. Did you back any of these winners recently?
