8/2/2002 edition Betting Myths 1. Major track upgrades are "good news" What a myth. Punters are regularly given this misinformation. Last Saturday the Warwick Farm meeting was an absolutely useless betting meeting. The track commenced Saturday morning as being rated Heavy. It was upgraded to Slow before the meeting started and further upgraded to Dead during the meeting. If you are serious about winning long term at racing you must usually leave those meetings alone. It takes a lot of time to properly do your form for a meeting. Form for a Heavy track is not the same form you use on a Dead rated track. You can't successfully just change your selections and betting approach for a Heavy track to a Dead track at the drop of a hat. It is not "good news" as was proudly announced on Sky Racing that the track at Warwick Farm had yet another upgrade to Dead. The announcement should have been, "Sorry punters. More bad news. The Heavy track which we all did our form for at Warwick Farm has just been upgraded to Dead. We can all forget about the work we did on the form. It's best for you to stop betting at the meeting." That of course wouldn't help turnover on the New South Wales TAB, would it? l'm quite happy to offer you 1000/1 about Sky's viewing audience being told by Sky Racing on racedays that major track upgrades from Heavy to Dead are "bad news", not "good news".
