Wet Track Betting Tips
Minimising risks is all important
Let's have a look at the Caulfield meeting last Saturday,
where the horse racing was held on a genuinely Heavy track.
R1 2YO Open. Handicap. 1200 metres.
$3.20 favourite Cargo Cult finished second, beaten 1.8 lengths.
No wet track form. The $5.00 winner Classiconi also had no wet track form.
R2 3YO Fillies. Open. Handicap. 1400 metres.
$4.20 favourite Songs Of Vienna finished a well beaten fifth. She
had one win from two starts on a Heavy track - a Moe maiden. She was unplaced
in her only Slow track run. $4.40 second favourite Andiamo won. This lightly
raced filly had raced once on a rain affected track, a Heavy track for
a close second, four lengths ahead of the next runner.
R3 3YO Colts & Geldings. Open. Handicap. 1400 metres.
$2.25 favourite Valedictum finished a well beaten sixth. He had
never raced on a Slow track. The gelding had a Bendigo maiden win as his
only race result on a Heavy track. The $13.00 winner Jakodae was first
up from a spell. He had never raced on a track worse than Dead in his
four starts.
R4 Open. Handicap. 1400 metres.
$4.00 favourite Hardy Steele finished second. He had won his only
start on a Heavy track - a Saturday city meeting, and had a win and a
third from his two starts on Slow tracks. The $7.00 winner, Studebaker,
was first up. He had never raced on a track worse than Dead in his 10
starts.
R5 Open. Handicap. 1200 metres.
$4.40 equal favourite Cahuita won. He had never raced on a Heavy
rated track, but did have two wins from four starts on Slow tracks. The
other $4.40 equal favourite, Blessum, finished a well beaten seventh.
In 25 previous starts this 5YO gelding had only raced once on a Heavy
track and was unplaced. Blessum had also raced three times on Slow tracks
for a city win and a third.
R6 Open. Handicap. 1700 metres.
$4.20 favourite Walk On Ice finished a well beaten 10/11. The 7YO
gelding had six wins and three placings from 12 Heavy track starts. The
$6.50 winner Wild Classic, had a win and a second from two Heavy track
starts. However the win was a Colac Class 4. The gelding also had three
wins and two placings on Slow tracks including a city win at Sandown.
R7 Open. Handicap. 2020 metres.
$4.00 favourite Action Shot finished a well beaten 10/11. This
3YO gelding had only one win to his credit from nine starts. That was
in July last year - a 2YO Open at Flemington by 3.5 lengths on a Slow
track. He had raced twice on Heavy tracks for an unplaced run and a well
beaten third in a Ballarat maiden. The $11.00 winner, 4YO gelding Schumpeter,
in his 26 starts had never raced on a Heavy rated track. From three starts
on Slow tracks he had a Sandown win back in 2002 and a second. How do
you possibly select him?
R8 Fillies & Mares. Open. Handicap. 1600 metres.
$4.20 favouriteHarley Ma had raced twice on Heavy tracks for two
seconds. However her most recent second in August last year was more than
two lengths behind the winner in a Sandown midweek 3YO fillies open. The
$4.60 winner Bella Vichy, had the poor strike rated of just four wins
from 28 starts. But she had won her only start on a Heavy track - six
days earlier in a good quality mares race at Flemington.
What conclusions can we draw?
