Betting Value Tips

Horses who are unlucky can often catch everyone by surprise and win or place at one of their next few starts at bolter's odds. That is just what you want for quinellas, trifectas and first four.

Please note:
There is no one single factor which guarantees winning selections. This information can be useful when taken into account with other form factors.

Here are some of the unlucky horses from Saturday, March 1.

Caulfield:
Subscribe - wide run
Special Harmony - flattened at the 700
Titanic Jack - slipped, checked off heels on the home turn
Consular - badly held up rounding the home turn and in the straight
Old Man - held up in the straight
Maicostus - behind the leaders badly held up the straight

Rosehill:
Night Raider - covered plenty of ground to get a run in the straight
Jackman - held up in the straight
Barberousse - covered ground, held up in the straight
Legally Bay - badly held up in the straight, should have won
Moon Dragon - badly held up in the straight, inconvenienced at the 150
Ancient Song - worked hard from barrier 15
Salgado - held up and inconvenienced at the 300
Defier - cut out at the 300, good thing beaten despite stewards rejecting the protest
Isla Kristina - held up and shuffled back in the straight
Shovoff - no run in the straight

Eagle Farm:
Noble Caste - barrier nine, worked hard three wide on the pace
Riva Rebel - nearly fell when making its run in the straight
Teldawn - badly held up in the straight
Sleek Ali - badly held up in the straight
Polenta - behind the leader with no run in the straight
Aggravation - solid pace, no peace in the lead

Cheltenham:
Gold On Gold - three wide in the lead, challenged the entire straight
Lawson's Storm - no run in the straight till too late
Debben - no clear run the last 200
Jeune Amour - badly held up in the straight
Paliente - searched for a run in the straight
King's Haven - wide run on the speed

You Need Top Odds

It is just about impossible to get a high enough strike rate backing short priced tote favourites and the poor value tote horses to make up for the big unders on the tote.

If you regularly get poor odds you must lose.

Short priced tote favourites
are losing bets.
