7/2/2003 edition Flemington Racetrack There were 13 runners in this race. The horses that started from barriers one, two, three, four, five and six finished sixth to eleventh, headed by Mr. Magoo and Pindi Ridge. They all had the misfortune of racing on the inside section of the straight. Mr. Magoo finished 4.5 lengths from the winner, the Lee Freedman trained Dama De Noche. The horses that started from barriers seven, eight, nine, 12 and 13 occupied the first five placings. They all had the good fortune of racing on the outside section of the straight. How lucky that Dama De Noche, which started from barrier seven, went to the right side of the track. Libidinious, who had to lug 58kg. and started from barrier three, was a shocking bet at $4.20 favourite. The mare never had a show on the biased track. We wonder whether the VRC will organise an international sprint race down the straight? Could you imagine the furore from overseas owners, trainers and jockeys if an international sprint race at Flemington was decided by the luck of the barrier draw and the side of the track the horses raced? The biased Flemington track makes form that much harder
to follow. This edition of Punt to Win: Back Tote Longshots?
