5/12/2003 edition 2003 Japan Cup At the jump of the 2003 Japan Cup, Australian representative, 2003 Cox Plate winner Fields of Omagh was showing odds of between $4.10 and $5.10 on the Australian totes. But on the tote in Japan Fields Of Omagh was eleventh of 18 in order of betting at nearly $40.00. Fields Of Omagh didn't handle the track conditions, ran the worst race of his career and finished last, 50 lengths from the winner. How can international betting odds be so out of kilter? Fields Of Omagh was unbeleivably poor value at $4.10. You'd think that with international markets being available for an international race, punters would actually shop around for decent odds. Tap Dance City led throughout and won easily by about seven lengths. On our local totes he paid as much as $19.50. It was quite amazing that different betting markets on the same international horse race were so out of kilter. You wonder whether there were any arbitrage possibilities?
