He won a Group 3 race at Eagle Farm over 2200 metres in June this year, was spelled and then returned to Melbourne.

Spirit Of Westbury's form this campaign has been excellent. On Saturday at Flemington he worked hard from a wide barrier to lead and fought on strongly in the straight, finishing a close second to Maythehorsebewithu and qualified for the Cup.

With Shane Dye coming from Hong Kong to take the ride, and with only 50kg. Spirit Of Westbury must rate a lightweight chance.

This tough four year old has had 13 runs without a spell.

Last start he won the 2500 metres Group 2 Moonee Valley in dominating style, settling well back in the field, rounding them up with ease and going away for a three lengths win.

The barrier is a big disadvantage. He will probably get well back in the field and need luck in the home straight.

His sole win was in May this year - the 2600 metres St. Leger Stakes at Victoria Park.

First up from a spell on September 1 he ran a huge third behind Sunline in the Memsie Stakes over 1400 metres at Caulfield. His starting price was $101.00. The track was also Heavy.

Most of Rum's best runs have been on rain affected tracks. But he did put in a solid fifth in the Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington on Saturday starting at $51.00. The track was Fast.

Despite that run many others make more appeal.

In last year's Melbourne Cup Celestial Show settled last in the field, suffered interference on the home turn, but still ran on to finish seventh.

The six year old mare's form this time in has been excellent. Last start she very nearly won the Caulfield Cup and finished the closest of thirds, backed in on track from $101.00 to $61.00, to Ethereal and Sky Heights.

That was Celestial Show's fifth run this campaign. It was a huge run. When you also take into account her strong run in last year's Cup she must rank as a very big lightweight chance this year. Placegetters in the Caulfield Cup have an excellent record in the Melbourne Cup.
