5/4/2002 edition Sunline Wins Doncaster Sunline too good What a tough win by Sunline in the
$2,400,000 Group 1 Doncaster Handicap at Randwick. With top weight of
58kg. she led throughout. The Gai Waterhouse trained Ha Ha, the
subject of an ill-placed betting plunge from $12.00 to $7.00 sat on Sunline's
girth, but when the pressure was applied weakened noticeably to finish
seventh, beaten by three lengths. El Mirada who started off the track in the widest barrier, 20, put in a massive run. He settled well back in the field, was never on the track from the barrier, but still ran home strongly and finished fourth. His starting price? $81.00. Last year, a week after the Doncaster, in the All-Aged Stakes, also over 1600 metres, he won on a heavy track with $51.00 bet, while Sunline finished third. El Mirada, who handles all track conditions, will be spot on for the race again this year. Next
