3/10/2003 edition Horse Racing Betting Tips $7.00 Moet Now - for a loser at Victoria Park racetrack This 9YO gelding won a restricted handicap over 1450 metres at Victoria Park last Saturday. In the field of nine runners Moet Now started at $7.00 with the bookmakers. Tote punters betting on Victoria's SuperTab got a paltry $6.60 win dividend. The New South Wales tote paid best odds of $7.90. We didn't jump to take any of those odds. You see, Moet Now had started 31 times at Victoria Park for the grand record of one win. Punters who backed Moet Now were either very brave or very foolish. Ambulance $3.40 That's the paltry odds backers on Victoria's SuperTab got when this John Hawkes trained gelding won the 3YO Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes at Randwick last Saturday. Best tote odds were $4.40 on the New South Wales tote. We also saw one of our Forum posters claiming Ambulance as a successful $4.40 winning tip. It's time all punters realised tote odds for horses well in the market are generally very poor on Saturdays in Melbourne and Sydney. Bookmaker odds are usually far superior. Ambulance started at $6.00 in the Sydney bookmakers' betting ring. It's not possible to win at racing taking $3.40 or $4.40 about a horse when $6.00 is freely available. Full stop. End of story. This edition of Punt to Win: You Need Top Odds It
is just about impossible to get a high enough
strike rate backing short priced tote favourites
and the poor value tote horses to make up for
the big unders on the tote. Short
